Mastering Flower Painting: The Art of Layering Colors Boldly

Why You Should Layer Colors:
Flat flower paintings feel lifeless. When you layer smartly, your artwork feels fresh, alive, and full of light.

Use Color to Shape the Form:
Start by identifying your light source. Use darker colors on the shadowed side of petals, gradually lightening up where light hits.

Thick vs Thin Paint:
Use thicker paint for top petals and highlights. Apply thinner layers underneath to let the textures build gradually.

Tools Matter Too:
Experiment with brushes and knives. Sometimes the edge of a palette knife gives you a more natural petal edge.

Blending Trick:
Use a dry brush to feather out edges gently. That gives the effect of soft, velvety petals.
